Kanker zonder zever: Anticancer Fund exposes cancer myths in a new video series
Brussels – There are countless questions about cancer, and even more misinformation circulating online. That is why Anticancer Fund is launching a new series of educational videos on social media: Kanker zonder zever (Cancer, no nonsense). In these clips, our scientists and doctors provide straightforward answers. The aim is simple: to give people reliable information about cancer.
Short videos with quick, well-founded answers to questions about cancer
With 15 years of experience in cancer research and providing information to people with cancer, Anticancer Fund sees that many patients, their families, and concerned citizens feel overwhelmed by everything they read about cancer. There is so much online that it is hard to know what is accurate and what is not.
Does sugar feed cancer? Can men get breast cancer? Is vaping really a safer alternative to smoking? The new videos quickly provide clarity. Each video is around one minute long: short, clear and to the point.
“Cancer already turns people’s lives upside down, so the last thing anyone needs on top of that is myths and rumours. With this series, we translate solid science into everyday language. We tackle stubborn myths and social media hypes, but we also share practical advice. The goal is to give people information they can trust,,” says Michael Maris, Associate Director of Anticancer Fund.
What sets the video series apart?
- Evidence-based content: everything in the videos comes directly from our experts. Each topic is checked against scientific research.
- No jargon: we avoid complex medical and scientific terminology. The videos are accessible and fluent, and focus on clear answers.
- No taboos: we do not shy away from difficult questions. The series covers complex topics (such as genetic testing in lung cancer or the value of the PSA test) as well as more practical issues (working during cancer treatment or becoming pregnant after cervical cancer).
- Interactive and up to date: viewers are invited to post their own questions in the comments. This helps us to keep creating information that really meets people’s needs.
Helping people to spot cancer misinformation
With these educational videos, Anticancer Fund wants to bring sound knowledge directly to the people who need it. The series offers simple insights into cancer and its treatments, and helps viewers to take a more critical look at bold claims or so-called “miracle cures” online.
As a cancer organisation, Anticancer Fund has been working for years to counter misinformation, which can have serious consequences for patients. At the request of patients or their families, our team of doctors and scientists carefully evaluates treatments and checks whether they are scientifically proven and trustworthy. Every year, we receive hundreds of such requests from people with cancer via our information service My Cancer Navigator.

Do you have questions you would like our experts to explain in a video?
Post your question directly on Facebook or Instagram as a comment under one of our videos. Not a fan of social media? Then email your question to info@anticancerfund.org, with “Kanker zonder zever” in the subject line.
Not sure whether something is a myth or a fact? Have you come across a bold promise, an expensive alternative, or a so-called “miracle cure”? Send us the link, the name of the product or treatment, or simply describe your concern in a few words.
No question is too small, too critical, or too sensitive. The more questions we receive, the better we can tailor the next videos to what you really want to know – and together we can push back against misinformation about cancer.
