Once a treatment is found to be safe, it can be tested to see if it helps patients. In case of cancer patients, the study test whether a new treatment has an anticancer effect, for example, whether it shrinks a tumor or improves blood test results, whether there are any less common side effects which may appear when more patients get the treatment and whether it works against a certain type of cancer. Phase II trial may include 100 or more patients.
