Brachytherapy is a type of radiotherapy where radioactive material sealed in needles, seeds, wires, or catheters is placed directly into or near a tumor. The radiation damages the cancer cell genes, thereby preventing the cancer cells from growing and multiplying. It is also called implant radiotherapy, internal radiotherapy, curietherapy, and endocurietherapy.
