Being overweight or gaining weight due to cancer treatment may have a negative impact on the survival and quality of life of women with breast cancer. Weight loss is therefore recommended in breast cancer patients who are overweight.
A specific diet has been developed that does not only pursue weight loss but also encompasses metabolic changes such as insulin sensitivity, blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.

The hypothesis exists that the enzymes CYP1A1 and CYP1B1 are selectively overexpressed in several human cancers and that they are almost not present in the corresponding healthy tissue. Consequently, these enzymes could become an important tool in cancer therapy. It is on this basic concept the so called “anti-cancer activity” of salvestrols is based. Since the latter product is heavily marketed, the Anticancer Fund decided it was of prime importance to confirm or contradict the underlying assumption.
Today, there is no specific assay to detect the enzymatic activity of either CYP1A1 or CYP1B1 alone.
