Proyectos

Esta es una lista de los proyectos que la Fundación Contra el Cáncer financia actualmente.

PIONEER: a randomised Phase II trial in early stage, operable ER+ breast cancer patients who will receive two weeks of drug treatment prior to surgery.

PIONEER is a randomised Phase II trial in early stage, operable ER+ breast cancer. This is a ‘window of opportunity’ trial in which three groups of post-menopausal women will receive two weeks of drug treatment prior to surgery.

Mindfulness for young adults during and after cancer treatment

A project sponsored by the Alexine Clarysse fund and the Anticancer Fund in cooperation with the Catholic University of Leuven.

CUSP9v3, a combination of 9 repurposed drugs for the treatment of glioblastoma.

In this clinical trial, the combined treatment is given to 10 patients to assess safety of this experimental treatment.

The use of standardized plant extracts for the treatment of cancer

A plant extract is a complex mixture of different compounds that can act simultaneously on different targets, making it an interesting "cocktail" of natural origin. The Gloriosa superba extract showed promising preclinical activity in a pancreatic mouse model.

MODULUNG: a prospective phase II, randomized multi-center trial of a biomodulatory treatment with 3 oral drugs versus docetaxel or docetaxel plus nintedanib in patients with non-small cell lung cancer after platin failure.

This randomized study, where patients are randomly divided over the treatment group and control group, will compare the standard treatment with nivolumab to the experimental treatment with a combination of 3 oral drugs that are currently on the market for other indications than lung cancer.

Clinical research: Adoptive T cell transfer and vaccination as treatment for stage IV melanoma in patients

The activation and expansion of tumor reactive T cells outside a patients body and their subsequent re-infusion (adoptive cell transfer (ACT)) is at this moment the most effective approach to induce objective anti-tumor responses in end-stage metastasized melanoma patients.

Clinical research: Treatment of patients with metastatic melanoma with ultra-low dose Paclitaxel (Taxol®): A Pilot Trial for “Proof of Principle”

A pilot clinical trial to evaluate the biologic effects, safety and efficacy of palliative treatment with ultra-low dose paclitaxel (Taxol®) in patients with metastatic melanoma in stage IV or III unresectable.

Metzolimos, a combination of 4 repurposed drugs studied in patients with advanced solid tumor with bone metastasis and advanced pretreated osteosarcoma.

Metzolimos, metronomic cyclophosphamide and methotrexate combined  with sirolimus and zoledronic acid in patients with advanced solid tumor with bone metastasis and advanced pretreated osteosarcoma.

Translational research: in vivo testing of cryoablation and non-toxic products as a therapeutic treatment for metastatic breast cancer

The main goal of this research project is to develop a non-toxic combination therapy of cryoablation and and non-toxic products that is effective against metastatic breast cancer in the 4T1 model.

Adoptive T cell therapy based on Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocytes for stage IV ovarian cancer.

In the USA, impressive results have been obtained in melanoma patients treated with lymphodepleting chemotherapy, followed by ACT with high numbers of ex vivo expanded autologous TIL and IL-2 (cytokine stimulating T cell expansion). The first comparable clinical trial in Europe has not yet been completed, but the results are comparable and promising.
The current project aims to expand this treatment to ovarian cancer patients.
